Discover the exceptionnal terroir of the Lolol Valley.

Exclusive wine experiences at Hacienda Araucano in Colchagua Valley, Chile

After lengthy research in several regions of Chile, François Lurton planted his vineyard on virgin terroir, with poor soil and a healthy, balanced climate. Today, the estate has 28 hectares of vines and Lolol has been given "protected designation of origin" status.

Activities

Chile is a paradise for vines with very little disease and a stable cold climate.

Although making wine in Chile since 1992, it was not until 2000 that the perfect « cool » location at Lolol in the Colchagua Valley was found by François Lurton and his brother Jacques for their own domain. They purchased 200 hectares of land (bringing together seven different landowners in the same family) in an area that at the time had not been used for wine growing.

Today, the estate has 28 hectares of vines and Lolol has become a sought-after area of wine production. Being on the « Ruta del Vino » and in such a stunning location, wine tourism is being developed on the estate to cater for the growing numbers of wine enthusiasts that visit the Colchagua Valley.

We decided to try the biodynamic approach at the Hacienda Araucano vineyard because we knew that such a natural method of production was good for the environment, better for consumers, and would ultimately be reflected in the wines.

Lolol (« land of crabs and holes » in the Mapudungun language) is a Chilean town in Colchagua Province, O’Higgins Region. Lolol was founded in 1830.
